A Recap of the Nintendo Direct’s SSB Ultimate

On November 1, 2018, came the final Nintendo Direct for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. I personally thought it was amazing, but others might think it wasn’t the greatest because their favorite character was either an assist trophy or not in the game altogether. I’m going to talk about the important things of this Nintendo Direct.

The beginning of the directs starts off with one of the fighters, (Little Mac) fighting another fighter that isn’t known yet; soon after it reveals the 68th fighter, Ken from Street Fighter. He is an echo fighter of Ryu but slightly faster and uses his legs more.  After they show his move set, it shows that Ken finished off Little Mac, sending him flying into a jumbo screen. Then, as Ken is basking in his victory, a fighter attempts to attack him. It’s the Pokémon from “Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon” Incineroar; the fire/dark type Pokémon. Later on, near the end of the direct the final fighter (which is a limited time fighter) appears. Piranha Plant. The way to get Piranha Plant is to purchase Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and register the game card, or pre-order it from the Nintendo E-shop.

There is a new game mode called Spirits. Pretty much, you fight computer fighters that have handicaps such as Metal mode, giant, invisible etc. and once you defeat a computer, you unlock a “Spirit”. It’s like collecting trophies but looks more fun and less time consuming.

Masahiro Sakurai (The Creator) made this season pass-like thing, called “Fighters Pass”, which is exactly like a season pass. It gives you DLC characters the minute they are revealed, music and new maps. For $24.00 or you can pre-purchase the game and fighters pass bundle for $84.98.

Finally, the main Super Smash bros Ultimate Theme. It is called “Lifelight” and it has very nice vocals and everything. I think it’s basically for the Spirits game mode (also on the Super Smash Bros Ultimate website, you can choose between English and Japanese. Both are great).
